For those of you who smoke cigars, does it run in your family? My grandfather, father and now two of the sons have developed or are developing the cigar taste. I think my great-grandfather smoked as well, as I recall seeing a photo of this older gent with a cigar in his hand. I think he was my grandfather's father.

I agree that genes carry certain characteristics from one generation to another, but I think it has to do more with upbringing.

I am the first one in our family to smoke a cigar - I feel proud of it but am not going to make my children smoke to carry on the tradition. This should be their personal choice.

It does run in our family. I don't really think it is genes. For us, cigars are more of a cultural thing that has been one of the many things that identifies our family.

There are several men in my family who smoke/smoked cigarettes, but I am the first cigar smoker. There may have been some distant relatives that smoked cigars, but that wasn't what influenced me.

I think Ken is correct in stating that it has more to do with upbringing rather than genetics.

Our habits tend to be influenced by our environment. That is why kids in households of smokers are xx% more likely to smoke when they come of age.

Honestly, I think that this is defined not by our genes but by our upbringing :)

No,I can't say that it does. My dad didn't really get into cigars. He was a pretty heavy cigarette chain-smoker, though. My mom was, too.

I'm the first one in my family that I know of who smokes cigars. My father and grandfather both smoked. So did my mom. All I ever saw was cigarette smoking. I have an uncle who always smoked cigars.

My mother and father both smoked heavy duty cigarettes, although I never saw them with a cigar in their mouths. I'm the first cigar smoker.

I can't say that I know too many people in my family who smoke cigars, although one or two do. That's not atypical, I would think. Maybe I can convince a few more to take up the hobby.

I have a couple of family members who smoke cigars, but I didn't start because of them. Some of the people in my family claim they didn't ever try it because of one uncle who used to smoke really strong ones in the house all the time. They didn't like him, so they didn't like his cigars. They say they like mine.

My grandfather used to smoke cigars, although his son (my father) couldn't bear the smoke. And I enjoy my cigars immensely!

Nobody ever smoked before me in my family. I am a kind of a black sheep but no one has ever told me to stop smoking. This was my decision. The only thing I always did was never smoking in front of them.
