The majority of Cuban cigars are medium in strength.  Most won't overpower a beginner.

I just realized that I never posted in this thread (something unheard of to a post whore like me ).

Top five, in no particular order.

Monte #1

Upmann Sir Winston

PL Petit Corona

Johnny-O! Corona Extra

ERDM Lonsdale

So do you mean that there are cigars that have strong punch when we smoke them? For the sake of this conversation, what type of cigars should beginners avoid?

There are actually 2 Por Larranaga - Asia Pacific LE. One is a robusto (4 7/8 x 50) and is the one I was referring to. The other is a Belicosos Extra (5 1/2 x 52) which I've also tried but didn't enjoy as much as the robusto (which I found to be creamy and sweet)

My far and away favorite is the Cohibo Robusto. Next, don't have specific favorites but I like Punch followed by Partagas

I'm always trying different cigars. The last ones I had were Cohiba Blacks. As for Cuban, I don't really have a preference. Fonesca is one of the best I've tried though.

My favourite smokes are:

  • Trinidad Reyes
  • Hoyo De Monterey Epicure 2
  • MonteCristo Edmundo
  • Por Larranaga Petit Coronas
  • H. Upmann Magnum 50 LE 2005

The Trinidad Reyes rocks. Good things need not come in big packages.

I agree about the Trinidad Reyes - it's a great smoke!

I'm a seasoned wine drinker who still enjoys a nice white Zin... I'm a seasoned cigar smoker who still enjoys Guantanameras. Something about coming home to the familiar. That said, my absolute FAVORITE is the Romeo y Julieta.  If I could smoke ony one for the rest of my life it would be Romeo y Julieta.

Hey guys I am new to the site and have been smoking cigars for a couple years now. I have tried quite a few Cubans and they are awesome! That said my Top 5 cigars are:
1. Padron 1926 series No.9 Natural
2. Bolivar Petit Coronas
3. Cohiba Siglo II
4. Partagas Serie D No. 4
5. Padron Family Reserve 45 Maduro
I love the Montecristo #2 and it is close to a tie for #5 but up to this point nothing has been any better(for me) than the Padron 1926 #9......mmmmmmm good times good times

I found this thread extremely interesting, as a relatively inexperienced cigar smoker, and I've made a list from here of those I'd like to try. It's amazing how many there are out there! Partagas seem especially popular.

I am also somewhat inexperienced. I am still in the process of finding a few cigars that I want to stick with. One that I am really fond of is the Montecristo #4. I am still developing my cigar taste buds.
