I was watching Blazing Saddles last night and Mondo bit off the cap of the cigar before lighting it. Obviously it's a lot easier to just cut the cap but has anyone here ever bitten off the cap?

I've done it in a pinch with no cutter handy, but I don't make a habit of it. It can make for a messy smoke.

I used to do it all the time back when I smoked cheap cigars. Now that I'm into pricier smokes, I keep a cutter handy at all times.

I'm the same way, it wouldn't keep me from smoking one, but I almost always have a cutter handy now. To me it's similar to good bottled beer. I know the tricks when necessary, but it's much easier to use a bottle opener.

I have never bitten the cap off my cigar. Does it leave a funny taste in your mouth? If I had no choice I would just bite the cigar and hope I did not mess it up while doing so.

No, I have never bitten the cap of a cigar. To me it just seems like it would make it a less enjoyable smoke and I really don't want a mouthful of cigar no matter how good of a cigar it is.

Biting the cap off a cigar seems like a waste of a good cigar.

Biting the cigar tip is just showing off, in my opinion. I enjoy the taste of the smoke, but I am not about to get a wad of tobacco stuck in my teeth!

I tried biting it once but I didn't like it - mostly for the physical aspect, to be sincere.

Nope, biting is the last thing I would do to my cigar. It sounds so barbarian!

Biting cigars isn't a good idea but if you desperately need to smoke a cigar and don't have a cutter around you, then that's just fine.
