I can think of many things I wish I had known. If you could choose three things you wish someone had told you about cigar smoking as a newbie, what would they be?

Get a humidor, and choose it carefully. Pay particular attention to the rim and the lid, and how they fit together. The lid should shut tightly. For the record, a humidor lid should not "seal" completely; it should allow a minute amount of air to circulate in and out of the box. But any visible warping will mean that too much air gets in and too much moisture gets out, even if there's a "lip" that fits inside the lid.

I wish I had more refined taste, as a newbie- I often choose cigars that wouldn't smoke today because of their tasting characteristics and quality.
But then I considered them to be the best ones I've ever smoked in my life, seriously

Not to inhale! Haha! Unfortunately, my first cigar smoking exprience didn't go so well. I was a cigarette smoker for many years, and that was how I thought you smoked cigars, too. Well, let's just say, I learned my lesson!

I wish I had known not to waste my money on some of the cheaper brands. I didn't even like them, so I didn't understand the finer points of cigars. I would rather have one good cigar than a half dozen really cheap brands.

I wish I had known that all cigars are not created equal. Like others here, I wasted a fair amount of time smoking what today I would call garbage.

Choose a mild cigar for the best taste; much like any connoisseur, you'll acquire stronger tastes only after you become experienced.

I wish I had more money to spend on quality cigars and a tutor - to teach me how to smoke and what to choose from the great variety they are offering.

Have a little patience - smoking cigars and discerning their taste, flavors and aromas comes little by little, there's no hurry here.
