I recently heard from a friend that humidors are not only used for cigars. Apparently in high altitude areas, other items are better kept in a humidor. Does anyone know more about this?

Hi Howard57, I never heard about storing other things than cigars in a humidor. What could it be? A bottle of wine? A jar of strawberry jam?
Nothing specific comes to my mind right now. So what did that friend told you? What other things could be stored in a humidor?

I was actually curious, as to what else you could store in a humidor. So, I looked it up and was suprised! I found out you can age cheese in a humidor! Granted I have never tried this, so I am not sure if it really works. Here is the article if you want to test out this theory. Now I wonder what else can be done with a humidor?

Well I'm not sure if this is true, but my friend said that the Colorado Rockies keep their baseballs in a humidor! It sounded strange to me, I was also thinking more along the lines of food and drink.

That cheese article is pretty interesting, I'd probably try it if I actually had a humidor I wasn't using.

I couldn't imagine using a humidor to age cheese. If I have a humidor I am going to have some cigars in it not cheese.

I have an old humidor I found at an estate sale. It's been keeping my spouse's antique valentine collection in it for all these years. She's in need of a larger box, so I may be getting it back before long.

I think that using a good humidor for purposes other than keeping a cigar is just wasting a good humidor.

I think that if I ever have a humidor I don't use, I would buy more cigars and fill it with them, since this is what it is intended for.

I can't even imagine what they are used for when they're still good and active but if you don't need that humidor or find it in an inappropriate condition to store your precious cigars there, then you could store your money there. I got this idea from a TV show when the characters who were playing poker, put their money in such humidor, and locked it.

Humidors are for cigars. Money boxes are for money.
