How long does it generally take to properly season a new humidor before using it? I'd like to give one to a special friend with a good selection, but I want to season it for him ahead of time.

It mostly depends on the rH of your room, and how dry the wood is. It might be a couple days, it might be a couple weeks (less likely).

Hello Maisey and KenPk42!

As far as I know, it takes from 5 to 7 days to season a humidor before starting to use it.

Pleas note that if the cedar has not been seasoned, then the wood will actually take moisture from the cigars, and dry them out.

Remember not to use tap water in place of distilled water!

The only things you'll need for seasoning you humidor would be distilled water, a clean unscented sponge or cloth, and some patience.

And the most important: always follow the manufacturers' instructions, they could vary from a humidor to humidor.

I hope this helps.

Give it a couple of weeks - to be sure that it is properly seasoned, and go ahead and put your stogies there, they won't mind.
